01 · First stop · Theme park and wildlife sanctuary
Hacienda Nápoles
On the warm plains of Puerto Triunfo, beside the Medellín–Bogotá highway, lies Hacienda Nápoles: some three thousand hectares that in the 1980s were the crown jewel of the power of Pablo Escobar, with an airstrip, a private zoo and artificial lakes. After years of abandonment and asset forfeiture, since 2007 it has been a theme park open to everyone, with a memorial museum dedicated to the victims of drug trafficking. We enter with the Safari Passport and tour, accompanied, the Wildlife Sanctuaries: a thousand hectares of forests and lakes with more than four hundred animals, among them the herd of hippos descended from the four that arrived four decades ago and that today is the largest wild population outside Africa. Jurassic Adventure, with its life-size dinosaurs, the water area and the museums round out the day, which begins with breakfast included.

02 · Last stop · La Aldea in Doradal
Colombian Santorini
Before heading back, one last stop a few minutes from the hacienda: La Aldea, the neighborhood of Doradal that travelers named the Colombian Santorini. On a hillside, its white houses with blue doors, windows and balconies are linked by cobbled alleys and staircases that seem lifted from the Greek islands, in the heart of the Magdalena Medio. It is the pause to walk unhurried, take the photographs of the day among white facades and bougainvillea, and close the tour with the calm of the village before the road back to Medellín.
